Help Take This Save Lives

More than a quiet room, the Take This AFK Room is a calming space for people who need it, staffed with volunteers and clinicians who can answer questions and offer support for people who are stressed out. Some visitors simply need a break from the excitement and stimulation of a large event. Others seek conversation about mental health related issues. Still others check in to support us and our mission. We are happy to meet you all. Since Spring 2014, Take This has hosted AFK Rooms at every North American PAX event, with hundreds of visitors per day. Starting in 2015, the AFK Room has been available at every PAX worldwide, and we’ve brought it to many other events as well.

Backers!

We have news (boy do we), and apologies of being silent for so long. The past weeks have been busy for Team Take This.

We had an amazing PAX East! 

Thank you to all of our volunteers in the AFK Room and Diversity Hub & Lounge for making PAX East 2017 our best PAX yet. And huge thanks to our partners at PAX for making the event go so smoothly.

We Double-Funded!

What do you know? We unlocked the AFK Room at E3! Yay!

Thanks to your donations we will have a life-saving Take This AFK Room at the biggest video game showcase in the world. If you’re at E3 in June, we’ll be there for you! Thanks to … YOU! You’re making a HUGE difference in people’s lives.

The Plushy!

We are hard at work with our partners at Symbiote Studios developing the Psychomancer Plushy. It’s not quite ready for prime time yet, but boy are its embryonic stages cute.

More Shows!

Friends, we’re really hoping to unlock more shows. We’d love to be able to have an AFK Room at PAX South 2018 and PAX Aus 2017. We can’t do it without your help. And if we unlock those shows we’re into new territory, with a potential to expand the AFK Room program to even more shows in even more places, bringing life-saving mental health awareness and support to people who need it.

Holy wow! You did the thing!

Thanks to your kindness and generosity, we’ll be able to bring the life-saving AFK Room to PAX West! Hundreds of people every day will benefit from your belief in our mission and the hard work of our volunteers. Thank you!

All of us at Take This are so excited. Some of us may have cried. (No, it was YOU!)

After all of the hard work getting this Kickstarter started after the weirdness with our Indiegogo, we weren't even sure if this would happen, much less happen in our FIRST WEEK!

Wow.

OK. Sorry, we needed some time to absorb this news and reflect on what happens next.

So, what happens next?

We keep going! We’re going to do all we can to bring the AFK Room to more conventions around the world. And with your help, we know we can succeed. Keep spreading the word, sharing this campaign and fighting stigma.

If we can raise $10,000 more, we can bring the AFK Room to another show this year. And if we can raise more money, we can bring the life-saving room to more shows.

Add-ons?

A lot of you have asked about add-ons. We're looking into it. I can't promise anything yet, but I would like to make it possible for everyone who wants a specific combination of our reward items to be able to get one for a reasonable cost. Stay tuned for news on that.

Also stay tuned for more from our campaign! As the team winds down from PAX East (and gets some rest #SelfCare) we will have more live streams and fun events to build up "The Hypes" as they say.

Thank you all again, so, so much. Seeing this campaign get funded while we were at PAX was such a huge boost for everyone. It's means the world to us that you believe in what we're doing. Together we’re saving lives and changing the world!

Whoa! You all did an amazing thing! 

Team Take This woke up today to find our little fundraiser over 50% funded in just 24 hours! Holy carp! 

We can't thank all of you enough for your kindness and generosity. And this gives us a HUGE boost as we start traveling to Boston for PAX East this weekend. 

Our AFK Room at PAX East was funded in part through our previous fundraiser. If you'll be at the show, you can stop in and see for yourself how we help show staff and attendees with our hopeful and helpful approach to mental health issues. 

 We're 50% funded, but that means we still have 50% left to go before we can ensure we’ll have an AFK Room at PAX West. We still need your help! P

lease spread the word. And if you’ve been to one of our AFK Rooms, share your story! Hearing how it helps is a positive encouragement for other people to not only contribute, but visit themselves. And it tells organizers of other shows that this is important, that it helps, and that their show might need it, too! 

In the weeks ahead we’ll be unveiling our Psychomancer plushie and the final design of our new Pinny Arcade pin by Gabe. And hopefully a few other surprises as well!
